Smudges
ABOUT Smudges
This is a creative piece showing blemishes and imperfections; covered in smudges.
We pick at our imperfections and find fault at every angle. It’s that constant uneasy feeling of being inadequate, not happy or content and in a state of turmoil and unrest.
This story speaks of the battle of poor self image, low self worth, perfectionism struggles, depression, and eating disorders. Underneath the smiles and appearance of ‘having it all together’ we can wrestle with these issues for years.
The road to recovery can be a mixture of different things; people listening, understanding, supporting, seeing role models of healthy relationships, gaining knowledge, doing therapy, wrestling with our beliefs, acknowledging the lies society feeds us, unravelling our past.
Learning to accept our true identity is helped by taking the focus off yourself, and looking internally. When examining ourselves in the mirror, it’s easy to be dissatisfied, or feel imperfect. By simply changing perspectives and seeing yourself from a different point of view we can begin to see ourselves in a better light.
Learning to love yourself is a life long relationship and journey but the first step sometimes is to ask for help and bring the darkness we feel into the light.
